    Migrant dancers

A migrant worker dance troupe* will perform at the World Universiade Youth Carnival on August 10 and 12 in a cultural exchange with young people from around the world.

Members of the troupe, which won first prize in the category for special programs at this year’s CCTV Spring Festival Gala, have started learning English so they can communicate with dancers coming to the carnival and participate in more international exchange activities.

    29,000 evacuated

Nearly 29,000 Chinese nationals had been evacuated* from Libya by Monday.

More than 30,000 Chinese citizens had been working in the northern African state when the anti-regime protests erupted.

About 2,500 Chinese had been flown back to China, while 23,000 had been temporarily resettled in third countries and 3,400 were on their way to third countries. Those remaining in Libya were to be flown out or taken overland to Tunisia.

    Top livable cities

Shenzhen is one of nine Chinese cities ranked among the world’s top 100 livable cities. A survey conducted by a British non-government organization ranked Shenzhen at No. 82.

It was the 10th year The Economist Intelligence Unit had ranked the world’s most livable cities. Vancouver was No. 1 for the fifth year in a row. It was followed by Melbourne in Australia, Toronto, Vienna and Calgary in Canada.

    Capsule hotel

Shanghai fire authorities have refused to approve China’s first capsule* hotel, saying on Thursday that materials used in its construction do not meet safety standards.

The fire control bureau said tests showed the materials used to build the 300-square-meter hotel with 68 capsules — small single bed-sized rooms similar to those found in Japan — were not fireproof.
