Different cultures, same heart

Some expats who live in Shenzhen and Guangzhou gathered in Splendid China on June 19 for an activity organized by Classic Mandarin of Shenzhen Party (a famous Web site for expats in Shenzhen). We had an interview with them.

Most of them have been in China for many years, and are learning Chinese with Classic Mandarin.

My first interviewee is Valerie, a French lady with long, golden hair. Valerie has been in Shenzhen for about two years, and works as a teacher. She finds Chinese the most difficult language in the world, but she still needs to learn it because she has to use it in her job.

Pack from Briton has a round face and long nose. He has an interesting job as an engineer. He also thinks Chinese is not easy to learn but he loves it.

Then I talked to Valerie’s boyfriend, Jack. He is a computer engineer from Canada. I tried to interview him in Chinese, and he did a really good job. He may be the best Chinese speaker among the three.

After the interview, I found that although those foreigners are from different countries and cultures, they all love Chinese and study hard. And they are working hard to adapt, the language, the climate, the customs.

That’s what we should learn, to make our way by being teachable.
