Local consumers struggle to get refunds
    2011-08-30  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    Li Hao

LOCAL consumers have found it difficult to get refunds on their edible bird’s nest, following the exposure of the problematic cubilose in Zhejiang Province.

Blacklisted by the quality watch dog in Zhejiang, Yanzhiwu, a domestic cubilose chain store, has required its dealers in China to change or refund the blood-red cubilose upon request.

However, the dealers in Shenzhen appear not to have complied. “We don’t give refunds,” said an unidentified staff member at a Yanzhiwu outlet on Meiyuan Road in Luohu District.

In addition, tonic dealers in Futian farm produce wholesale market said that they would not change or refund the blood-red cubilose they have sold. “Our blood-red cubilose is from Indonesia and of good quality,” said a dealer, according to reports by the Southern Metropolis Daily.

However, legal experts said that consumers have the rights to demand a refund if they hold a risk assessment report or an authentication report given by hospitals or authentication institutions.

Consumers could demand compensation 10 times the price they paid for a fake product if they have proof, according to national food safety laws.
