Student magic show held at SFLS
     2011-December-14  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A total of 11 students from 11 schools attended a city-wide magic competition for middle school students at Shenzhen Foreign Languages School (SFLS) on Sunday.

Lin Junfa from Buji High School won first prize in the stage magic category, while Guo Weixiang from Cuiyuan Middle School won the close-up magic section, according to Zhou Chao, one of the organizers of the competition and president of Shenzhen High School Magic Club Association.

The competition, which was organized by the association and its affiliate Magic Club Phenomenon, started November 5 with 24 students from 11 schools.

Well-known magician, Zhen Miao, was also invited to perform. He used his time onstage to teach participants other magic tricks.

“The entire competition vastly exceeded my expectations, not only the performers, but also the organizers. The entire thing was a success and the contestants are almost up to professional level already,” said Zhen.

The first competition was held two years ago at SFLS with a group of magic enthusiasts from five high schools competing. To promote magic, they agreed to establish an inter-school magicians’ union — Shenzhen High School Magic Club Association.

At present, there are 12 schools in the association and more students and schools join in the competition each year.

“What pushes us to hold this competition is our sincere love of magic. We want to share our passion with fellow students. I have learnt a lot from the experience,” said Zi Cheng, another organizer and head of the Magic Club Phenomenon.
