    China as new job frontier

As Western economies stagnate* and China’s continues to grow, students in Europe and the United States are increasingly looking eastwards for internships* and placements.

Scant* opportunities at home have driven more students to China and Asia-Pacific countries, according to youth group AIESEC and the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE).

    Wenzhou crash report

The State Council said in a long-awaited report released last Wednesday the July bullet train* crash that killed 40 people was caused by a design flaw and sloppy management.

The Cabinet said 54 officials were responsible for missteps* that led to the disaster near Wenzhou City in Zhejiang Province and will be given disciplinary punishment.

The report said the train crash was caused by flaws in the train operation control system and the inadequate emergency response of railway authorities.

    Tianya users’ data leak

The registration details of users on Tianya.cn, one of the country’s largest Internet forums, were leaked after the site was hacked* — one of the biggest leaks of user information in Chinese cyberspace.

The information of more than 40 million forum users became available Sunday.

Online security breaches have been in the news recently after 6 million user names and codes on csdn.net, a popular Web site for software programers, were leaked online Dec. 21.

    Food scandal widens

Guangdong authorities have recalled cooking oil products made by three companies after finding they contained the same type of cancer-causing toxin recently found in milk, State media said Thursday.

The incident came after leading dairy firm Mengniu revealed at the weekend that authorities found high levels of aflatoxin* in a batch of milk before it was sold, caused by cows eating moldy* feed at a farm in the southwest.
