    Adele’s Grammys performance

    Adele is nominated for six Grammys, and she’ll be on deck* to collect anything she wins: The 23-year-old singer is set to perform at the awards show.

    Adele had surgery on her vocal cords* last year, and the Grammys will be the first time she has performed live in five months, The Recording Academy announced Tuesday.

    Don Cornelius commits suicide

    Don Cornelius, creator of the iconic TV music and dance show “Soul Train” that helped introduce Americans to black pop culture, died last Wednesday after shooting himself in the head, Los Angeles officials said.

    Police found the body of Cornelius, 75, at his house in the wealthy, hillside Sherman Oaks area of Los Angeles called at around 4 a.m. last Wednesday. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

    Cruise an Oscars presenter

    Tom Cruise will serve as a presenter at the 84th Academy Awards, producers Brian Grazer and Don Mischer said last Wednesday.

    Cruise is a three-time Oscar nominee for his roles in “Born on the Fourth of July,” “Jerry Maguire” and “Magnolia.”

    Ben Gazzara dies

    Ben Gazzara, whose powerful dramatic performances brought an intensity* to a variety of roles and made him a memorable presence in such iconic productions over the decades as the original “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” on Broadway and the film “The Big Lebowski,” has died at age 81.

    Longtime family friend Suzanne Mados said Gazzara died Friday in Manhattan. Mados said he died after being placed in hospice care* for cancer. (SD-Agencies)
