GD launches anti-mafia campaign
    2012-02-14  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

GUANGDONG launched a provincial-wide campaign last week to clamp down on organized crime.

At a teleconference last Thursday, Wang Yang, Guangdong Party chief and member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, ordered task forces to eradicate organized crime and cut the connections and protections behind mafia rings.

The campaign will focus on organized criminal activity related to transportation, scrap recycling, product wholesales, project engineering and auctions.

The crackdown will focus on crimes such as commercial embezzlement and extortion.

The move is aimed at increasing public trust in the government.

The province had established an office headed by the Politics and Law Commission of Guangdong Provincial Committee of CPC. (Han Ximin)
