1m students start new semester

    More than 1 million students of the city’s primary and middle schools officially started the new semester on Monday.

    According to the city’s education bureau, two new high schools will open this year in Longgang District, including Longgang Senior High School and Shenzhen No. 6 Senior School, while the international department of Shenzhen Foreign Languages School may also start enrollment this September.

    Several boarding schools will also start construction this year. The Shenzhen No. 7, 8, 9 senior high schools, the Attached High School of Shenzhen University and Yantian Senior High School will finish planning and preparation work. Two will start construction this year.

    Three higher education venues, Shenzhen City University, Shenzhen Institute of Sciences and Technology and Shenzhen Open University will also start planning this year.

    The city also plans to jointly build two or three special institutes in association with foreign universities this year.

    Construction of the postgraduate school, Xili campus, medical school and attached hospital of Shenzhen University will be also be sped up.

    More international cooperation in education will be promoted this year, including an animal sanctuary and safety school jointly organized by the Shenzhen government and City University of Hong Kong.

    More primary and middle schools in the city will join the sister school program with Hong Kong and Macao this year.
