‘Artist’ dog

Uggie, the trick-performing Jack Russell Terrier* starring in silent film “The Artist,” was top dog at the first-ever Golden Collar awards recognizing canine* excellence in Hollywood films.

The veteran performer beat Cosmo from “Beginners,” Denver from “50/50,” Hummer from “Young Adult,” and the doberman Blackie from Martin Scorsese’s “Hugo.”

Jolie’s war film

Angelina Jolie, whose directorial debut on the Bosnian war screened in Sarajevo on February 14, said she would not attend a premiere in Belgrade but denied she was biased* against Serbs.

While thousands in Sarajevo, a mostly Bosnian Muslim city, were braving deep snow and freezing temperatures to attend the gala screening of “In the Land of Blood and Honey,” distributors in the Serb region of Bosnia have decided not to show it.

‘The Simpsons’

“The Simpsons,” in its 23rd season, will hit 500, a nearly unheard-of milestone reached by only two other prime-time* scripted series, Gunsmoke (635) and Lassie (588).

“I never imagined this,” creator Matt Groening says. “I thought it would be a hit with kids. I wasn’t sure adults would dig it.”

Faye Wong concert

Eleven people attending a concert by popular singer Faye Wong on Friday evening in Southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality were injured when their seating caved in.

The collapse happened at around 8:10 p.m. as the audience were entering the Olympic Sports Center. The seats that collapsed were supported by metal scaffolding* up to 1.5 meters in height.
