近日，山东省青州市一些地方被传出部分蔬菜商贩使用甲醛溶液喷洒白菜进行保鲜的现象。记者实地调查发现，这一做法在部分春白菜的长途运输中确实存在。一些菜商反映，喷甲醛给大白菜保鲜的方法已沿用三四年。业内人士建议，政府部门应尽快完善甲醛使用监管体系，严厉打击滥用保鲜剂行为。请看本报昨日的报道:

Vegetable wholesalers in Shandong Province have been caught spraying toxic formalin on Chinese cabbage, also known as bak choi, to keep the vegetable fresh, in China’s latest food safety scandal.

Vendors in Qingzhou said that spraying diluted formalin on bak choi had become a common practice locally in the past three to four years, the Xiaoxiang Morning Post reported. Formalin is a water-based solution of the toxic gas formaldehyde.

报道中的formalin是“甲醛溶液”，英文解释是a colorless solution of formaldehyde in water, used chiefly as a preservative for biological specimens.
