Sandy leaves trail of destruction
    2012-11-01  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

NICKNAMED “Frankenstorm” because it is a hybrid between a hurricane and a winter storm, Hurricane Sandy made landfall in New Jersey Monday night, bringing massive floods to Atlantic City, Manhattan, and other coastal areas of the United States. The New York subway was halted as the tunnels flooded, flights were grounded until after the clean-up and millions were left without power or transport.

Sandy’s impact on the United States affected at least 22 states, stretching from Florida to New England with tropical storm force winds stretching far inland with people in the Midwest warned not to go too close to Lake Michigan.

Early estimates of the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy ranged from US$15 billion to US$20 billion, putting it on the same scale as Hurricane Irene, which hit the eastern seaboard in 2011.

Shenzhen Daily also reported on the storm Tuesday and yesterday.SD-Agencies
