Book-swapping event sparks interactions
    2013-04-25  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE Urban Firefly Book-Swapping activity, organized by an influential book-reading club, was held Tuesday night on Haide Square at Coastal City in Nanshan District. More than 500 residents took part in the activity, which organizers said encouraged personal interactions through reading in an Internet-driven era when most social interactions occur online. Participants had been given about three weeks to pick a book they’d like to swap and post it on their personal Weibo account, and wrote their Weibo account names in the books before taking them to Tuesday’s swap. All 500 books were placed on the ground, and organizers then put a small light on each book, creating an effect of fireflies shining in the dark. Participants each picked a book and posted it on Weibo to interact with its owner. “We hope the activity will bring book-lovers together and help them get to know each other via social media platforms,” organizers said.
