A CRACKED window on a Shekou Line train caused panic among passengers during the morning rush hour yesterday.
The train was traveling in the Shekou-to-Xinxiu direction when a glass pane on the fifth carriage suddenly cracked at 8:16 a.m. Passengers who rushed from the rear of the train to the front injured two women after falling onto the floor, according to bloggers who said they witnessed the incident.
All passengers disembarked at Xiangmi Station and got back on the same train five minutes later, after the operator confirmed it was safe. The train was re-routed to a depot for maintenance after it arrived at the Lianhua West Station.
Shenzhen Metro’s operation company apologized for the incident on its blog and said Shenzhen Metro trains use double-layer glass that doesn’t pose dangers when it cracks.
The company said there were no injuries during the incident and the crack was probably caused by temperature differences inside and outside of the train, or by a strike from an alien object. The cause is still under investigation.
Shenzhen Metro hopes riders will report to drivers through trains’ internal communication systems when they encounter any emergencies.
