GREECE’S top administrative court ruled Monday evening against the shutdown of the state broadcaster ERT last week which triggered a government crisis, the worst since the formation of the ruling coalition a year ago.

    The Council of State decided that ERT should remain open during the restructuring period until the creation of its leaner substitute later this summer, as Prime Minister Antonis Samaras had planned, local media reported.

    Meanwhile, Samaras and his two coalition partners were still holding crucial talks to resolve the issue amidst speculation of snap elections.

    The ruling in favor of ERT’s trade union, which had turned to justice to overturn Samaras’ decision, means that the broadcaster’s signal should be restored and the implementation of the ministerial decree which sealed the closure should be temporarily suspended, until a final verdict is issued in September, analysts commented.

    According to Greek national news agency AMNA reports, the state was due to submit an appeal yesterday for the suspension of the temporary verdict.
