    For the ninth straight year, Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova has topped Forbes’ list of highest-paid female athletes with combined earnings of US$29 million in prize money, endorsement deals and appearance fees from June 2012 through June 2013, Forbes magazine said Tuesday.

    Tennis took the top four positions, with world No. 1 Serena Williams of the United States second (US$20.5 million), China’s Li Na third (US$18.2 million) and Victoria Azarenka of Belarus fourth (US$15.7 million).

    报道中的prize money是“赛事奖金”，appearance fee是出席商业活动的“出场费”。Endorsement是“背书、赞成、认可”的意思，deal是“协议”，endorsement deal字面上看是明星公开表示赞许某品牌的商品，也就是“广告代言”的意思。
