SHENZHEN has been seeing fast construction of hiking and cycling tracks, also known as green tracks. As of the end of last year there were 347 kilometers of green tracks on the Guangdong Province network. Moreover, the city had completed 772 kilometers of urban green tracks and 1,091 kilometers of community green tracks by the end of 2012. Below are some of the most beautiful tracks for cyclists to enjoy the beautiful city.

    Dawang section

    — Where culture meets nature

Going from Dawang Village to Donghu Park in Luohu District. Along the route there are mountains, rivers and parks, all making for a relaxing ride in the suburbs. If you get tired you can sit down to a nice cup of tea at a painter’s studio, or take a relaxing stroll round an art gallery. Riding across Fairy Lake Botanical Garden is a highlight providing the chance to enjoy some fresh air. This section is very easy to ride, perfect for children.

Where to get started: Dawang Village, Fairy Lake Botanical Garden and Donghu Park, Luohu District

    Yangmeikeng section

    — Sea breeze and sunrise

Yangmeikeng is considered the most beautiful valley in Nan’ao, Dapeng New Area, and is a popular spot for Shenzhen residents to enjoy a fun seaside getaway. The green track in Yangmeikeng is built along its 12-kilometer-long coastal line. Along the route the Yandongpu section is especially stunning, being an ideal place to witness the city’s first rays of sunshine each morning.

For the thirsty cyclist there is a wide selection of stylish inns and bars in the area.

Where to get started: Yangmeikeng, or anywhere along the coastal line in Nan’ao, Dapeng New Area

    Universiade Park section

    — Quietness in the city

Built inside the Universiade Park in Longgang District. The total length is 6 kilometers consisting of hills, rivers and flowers. Hiding in the busy Longgang Central District, the park is very quiet and gives you a chance to feel close to nature. For anyone still feeling energetic there is also a fitness facility to burn away extra energy.

Where to get started: Universiade Park, Shenxianling Reservoir, Diexi Valley, or Universiade Sports Center, Longgang District

    Dameisha-Xiaomeisha section

    — Stylish and scenic

This section is from Dameisha Beach to Xiaogui Bay via Xiaomeisha Beach. Some people call it the most beautiful cycling track in South China.

Besides the beautiful natural scenes cyclists can also take a visit to the well-known Aotou Ancient Town, which stands alone in a quiet and pretty bay.

On some parts of this section it may be a little difficult to find food and drink, or even people. Cyclists are advised to carry enough water and any personal medication they may need.

Where to get started: Dameisha Beach, Xiaomeisha Beach, Yanhai Expressway’s Xiaogui Exit, Aotou Ancient Town
