Dapeng offers variety of beach options
    2013-10-14  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

WANT to enjoy a holiday at the beach with your family without being disrupted by crowds of people during a holiday? Would you like to gaze at twinkling stars while listening to waves, or sing and dance at a bonfire barbecue with friends?

All those things can easily be done by camping or renting a room at lesser-known beaches, developed or undeveloped, on Dapeng Peninsula on the city’s east side.

During this year’s National Day holiday, camping was popular on beaches in Nan’ao, Dapeng, as many families and young people drove or rode bicycles to the city’s east.

If you’re tired of the Meisha beaches, which are the closest beaches to downtown Shenzhen and therefore the most crowded, try one of the 20-odd beaches scattered around Dapeng.

Yangchou Bay, for example, is a less-crowded beach that can only be reached by private car or bicycle. The undeveloped beach spans about 300 meters.

Yangchou Bay is managed by a hotel and is among 19 undeveloped beaches on the peninsula. Unlike other undeveloped beaches, it is equipped with shower, toilet and barbecue facilities.

“In terms of beach development, Shenzhen should learn more from Hong Kong by considering the public interest instead of profit alone,” said Chen Shangbao, an experienced camper.

Chen said Shenzhen’s government should consider the public interest by building more hiking trails and camping facilities on Dapeng, instead of focusing solely on commercial projects such as hotels and entertainment venues.
