THE nine-day Fringe Festival ended Sunday as 20 art groups from six countries and regions joined a parade at Shenzhen Bay, Nanshan District. Themed as “OH Fringe,” the festival has celebrated its fourth anniversary of participating in Shenzhen with around 150 various art shows. Artists from the Philippines, France, New Zealand, Britain, Singapore, Japan, Switzerland, the United States, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the mainland have presented visitors a feast of dance, music, drama, film and other art performances. Aimed to break the barriers between ordinary people and artists, the event was localized to “provide more possibilities for local residents to be involved in artistic creation, thus inspiring more people to appreciate art diversity.” Besides stage shows, performances and art booths, various projects included film screenings at homes, street piano shows and the college Fringe Festival were also held during the festival. Initiated in 1947 in Great Britain’s Edinburgh, the Fringe Festival is becoming one of the most popular art events across the world. Currently, 70 countries and regions have celebrated the festival and the first Fringe Festival in Shenzhen was held in December 2010. (Tan Yifan) |
