Male nurses bust stereotypes in local hospital
    2014-03-06  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

NURSES are traditionally female and are often labeled as gentle and amiable. But as college nursing courses have opened up for both male and female applicants, more male nurses are now appearing in hospitals, offering the same professional services to patients as female nurses.

The male nurses pictured are from Peking University Shenzhen Hospital, one of the most renowned hospitals in the city. The six out of over 10 male nurses have served in the hospital’s ER for years. According to the official data provided by the hospital, some of them have shuttled across the city over 1,600 times on ambulance runs.

As a newly rising career in China, male nurses have drawn attention across the country.

Currently, the hats for the male nurses have not been chosen, which has caused them some embarrassment. “I have to tell people that I’m not a doctor, but a nurse,” said a male nurse who wants to remain anonymous to Shenzhen Daily.(Tan Yifan)
