Captain America: The Winter Soldier
     2014-April-9  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Despite the magical serum* that first turned 40-kg Steve Rogers into his super strong alter ego*, both “Captain America” films have stayed largely grounded in the real world and have a sense of real-world politics. In “The First Avenger,” that meant pitting Rogers against* the group of power-mad Nazis known as Hydra. Here, it means bringing him face to face with an even more evil enemy: the American military-industrial complex.

Taking inspiration* from such hot topics as drone* warfare, NSA* spying and WikiLeaks-style secret sharing, the screenplay is clever in putting “The Winter Soldier” in a world where those on both sides have done much to harm human freedoms in the name of defending them.

This film finds Rogers (Chris Evans) living quietly in Washington, D.C., and trying to adjust to* the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. co-worker comes under attack, he begins to fight against plans that threatens* to put the world at risk.

Joining forces with Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Captain America struggles to find out the conspiracy* while fighting off professional killers sent to murder him.

When the complete plot becomes clear, Captain America and Black Widow get the help of a new friend, the Falcon (Anthony Mackie). However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and powerful enemy — the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan).

Director Anthony and Joe Russo have done a great job with this conspiracy-filled action film.

With all the humor, action, emotion and a character-driven script*, this is a super hero film hard to be matched.

When talking about acting, the film belongs to Chris Evans, who is dealing with themes* of right and wrong that are not always clear cut for him. Sebastian Stan is excellent as the Winter Soldier, who is a worthy enemy to our hero.

“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is part action film, part conspiracy thriller of the classic 1970s. (SD-Agencies)
