3m tons of construction waste reused in SZ
     2014-April-15  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

MORE than 3 million tons of construction waste were reused in Shenzhen last year, one of the largest amounts among all Chinese cities, Shenzhen Economic Daily reported.

Local industry leader Shenzhen Environmental Construction Materials Co. turned more than 2 million tons of waste into flooring or ground material last year. Chairman Yang Zhengsong said the company sorts construction waste and then processes it into environmentally friendly tiles, paving material, bricks and more.

Coarse aggregates can be used as base materials for ground pavement and fine aggregates can be made into solid bricks or fertilizer, Yang said, adding that it takes only a few minutes to make such a brick out of reused materials.

Reused materials have been applied to construction projects across the city, at locations including the South University of Science and Technology of China (SUSTC), a costal leisure belt along Shenzhen Bay, University of Hong Kong Shenzhen Hospital and the new terminal at Shenzhen International Airport, the Economic Daily reported.

More than 10 enterprises across China focus on reusing construction materials, in Beijing, Shenzhen, the Yunnan Province capital of Kunming, and Shandong and Hebei provinces, the newspaper reported. (Zhang Yang)
