    Man held

A 45-YEAR-OLD railway system employee was held by police for removing a 12-meter section of track and causing a train to derail in Suihua City, Heilong-jiang Province, on Sunday, youth.cn reported.

Fifteen people were injured when the passenger train derailed en route to the provincial capital, Harbin.

Wu Zhenjin, a senior chief of the company’s track maintenance division, told police that he had acted alone in damaging the track. Wu reportedly failed in a bid for a promotion about six months ago. The report said this grievance might have provided a motive for his actions.

    3 dead in blast

A CHEMICAL plant blast and fire in Jiangsu Province have killed three people and left five others missing, local authorities said yesterday.

The blast occurred at Shuangma Chemical Plant in Rugao City. Firefighters have extinguished the flames, and the search for the missing is under way.

Established in 1997, Shuangma Chemical Plant mainly produces edible palm oil, or stearic acid.

An investigation into the cause of the blast is ongoing.

    Lawmaker jailed

A RICH businessman and former lawmaker from Heilongjiang Province accused of rape by a former television anchorwoman was sentenced to 11 years in prison for corruption and fraud, State media reported Tuesday.

Sun Dejiang helped others fake retirement documents to receive pensions, and used fake invoices to claim medical expenses.

Rape charges were not included in his conviction.

The 56-year-old businessman and lawmaker was placed in the spotlight in 2012 when well-known local TV anchor Wang Dechun accused him on Sina Weibo of raping her and forcing her into a sexual relationship.
