City plans traffic improvement at hospitals
     2014-April-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

IN a new move to reduce traffic congestion at city hospitals, Shenzhen authorities are set to increase parking fees to more approximate the rates of nearby commercial parking.

Vehicles not carrying passengers legitimately visiting a hospital will be charged 15 yuan for first hour and 1.5 yuan for each additional 30-minute period, Shenzhen transport commission said Friday.

Vehicles carrying patients with legitimate medical records will pay the current rate, 5 yuan for the first hour after a 30-minute grace period, then up to a maximum of 10 yuan for the entire day.

The parking fee increase is just one measure authorities are taking to relieve congestion and parking difficulty at hospitals.

“Many residents are parking their cars in hospital garages instead of business areas because the fee is much lower. Raising the fees will help solve the problem,” said Xu Zhongping, deputy chief of the commission.

Based on current parking conditions at hospitals, the Shenzhen transport commission will implement traffic improvement measures to include adjusting, expanding or increasing exits and entries, separating vehicles from pedestrians, improving bus links at hospitals, increasing the number of parking spaces and introducing dimensional parking facilities.

Shenzhen’s transport authority and police first initiated traffic improvement plans at Peking University Shenzhen Hospital and Shenzhen No. 3 People’s Hospital in 2012. The traffic at Peking University Shenzhen Hospital improved with the expansion of an exit-entry at Xinzhou Road.
