Old Hakka village to receive modern visitors
    2014-05-08  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Gankeng Village, a once rundown Hakka urban village in Longgang’s Buji Subdistrict, will soon unveil a fresh new look.

Two years ago villagers raised 150 million yuan (US$24.01 million) to repair 150 dilapidated houses as well as transform an abandoned factory into a traditional Hakka structure for cultural exhibitions. Albeit a relatively small Hakka village in Southern China, the original residents fully intend to preserve their traditions while sharing their culture with visitors.

After completion of the makeover, tourists can savor Hakka cuisine, learn about Hakka culture and even plant vegetables among village crops.(Tan Yifan)
