A380 as comfortable as at home

A380 FLIGHT CZ3139 with China Southern Airlines made its maiden flight from Shenzhen to Beijing on Sunday, packed with 502 passengers.

This makes Shenzhen the third city in China to be home to the largest airplane in the world. According to the airline, the aircraft will operate on a daily basis, with departures at 5:30 p.m. that arrive in Beijing at 9 p.m. Return flight CZ3192 leaves Beijing at 11:20 a.m. and arrives in Shenzhen at 2:30 p.m.

The aircraft, regarded as the largest passenger aircraft in the world, has 506 seats, including 70 fully flatbed seats in its business-class cabin and eight platinum suites in first-class cabin.

In the business-class cabin, the space between the rows is 81 cm, which is comfortable enough for passengers 180 cm tall to stretch their legs.

Currently, passengers can only access the upper decks by climbing stairs from the lower cabin; however, two-level boarding jetways will be installed in the Shenzhen terminal before the end of the year, according to a Shenzhen International Airport representative.

Some passengers praised the stability of the plane during take-off and landing and during the flight when they hit turbulence.

“You can’t feel the sudden ups and downs and turbulence on the flight,” Qiao Hai, a man working for a Shenzhen bank said.

During the flights, passengers can watch movies, read e-books, or play games through the digital onboard entertainment system, which has more than 600 hours of programs.

Sun Juan, a businesswoman who stayed in a first-class cabin, prefers the privacy. She chose a private cabin, which was equipped with a 23-inch TV and a dining table.

“Inside the cabin, you won’t be interrupted when you are working or relaxing. You can sleep on the bed-seats just like you sleep at home,” Sun said.

In addition, the bed-seats in the first-class cabin can memorize the favorite positions of passengers. The plane is also equipped with oversized toilets and other special facilities for people with disabilities.

China Southern Airlines is the first air carrier in China to operate the Airbus 380 super jumbo aircraft. It now has five such planes on domestic and international routes.

    Reminder:

Passengers taking A380 flights should start checking in three hours before departure and board planes 55 minutes before departure, 10 minutes earlier compared with other flights.

The check-in service will close 45 minutes before departure.

China Southern Airlines has special counters for A380 flights at counters B1-B6 in the departure hall of Shenzhen Airport. Shenzhen International Airport has also opened a 300-seat lobby for A380 passengers. Passengers can board at gates 50A, 50B and 49.
