Solid-waste management fair to debut in Shenzhen

A SOLID-WASTE management fair that was initiated in Singapore two years ago will expand into China by holding an exhibition in Shenzhen in July 2015, as universal efforts seeking a cleaner environment creates a huge market in the waste management sector.

When first held in Singapore in June 2012, Asia’s International Waste Management and Environmental Technology Exhibition and Conference saw 2.38 billion yuan (US$387 million) worth of deals reached during the three-day fair, Huang Xiuzhen, deputy manager of SingEx and fair organizer, told reporters in Shenzhen yesterday.

The biennial fair drew wide attention in June, with over 13,000 buyers from 37 countries and regions and 3.42 billion yuan worth of deals cinched, Huang said. “Like other regions in Asia, China faces the same challenges of waste management, and that’s why we are bringing this fair to Shenzhen.”

The Shenzhen Waste Management Fair will showcase the latest technologies, equipment and notions in the sector, according to Worldex Fiera Milano Exhibitions (GZ) Co., the local organizer. Nearly half of the exhibitors are expected to be from overseas, and the world’s top experts in the sector will share with local visitors their views and findings during the forum.

Asia has one of the highest numbers of waste-related projects, worth over US$687 million in total, according to data provided by fair organizers and the Waste Management and Recycling Association of Singapore. As the only trade fair in Asia that focuses solely on solid-waste management, this year’s fair in Singapore received 60 overseas exhibitors, which accounted for 60 percent of the total.
