THREE students from China won awards at the 2014 Student Academy Awards on June 7.
Besides Mu Zijian, Liu Yulin, daughter of well-known Chinese writer Liu Zhenyun, won the Narrative Silver Medal, while Cheng Teng won the Animation Silver Medal.
Liu is now a postgraduate student at New York University. Her short film, “Door God,” tells the story about a little girl waiting for her mother to come back home to a rural village in Henan Province.
The story was based on a memory from Liu’s childhood, when she went back to her hometown with her father. The shooting team was from the hit Chinese movie “1942.”
Liu joined the film team when she was a second-year student on a NYU’s postgraduate program. During her work on the film, she got to know a group of young Chinese filmmakers, and together they made her short film come true.
Cheng was from the University of Southern California. His award-winning work, “Higher Sky,” is an animation about Chinese martial arts.
