好基友

    Meaning:     

    "基" is the transliteration of the English word "gay," and the term "好基友" borrows from another term "好丽友," which is the transliteration of a Korean snack brand "Orion." Chinese netizens use "好基友" for their good friends or even strangers to show affection. It is no longer what it appears to mean — a term used to address gays. Both men and women can use the term.

    Example:

    A: 周末我们宿舍几个聚聚吧？

    Zhōumò wǒmen sùshè jǐge jùju ba?

    How about we old roommates having some fun together this weekend?

    B: 我带个同事一起来，行不？

    Wǒ dài ge tóngshì yīqǐ lái, xíng bu?

    Zhè ge tóngshì gēn wǒ chàbuduō tóngshí dào gōngsī, rén hěn hǎo, nǐmen huì xǐhuan tā de。

    This colleague came to the company roughly the same time as I did. She is nice and I bet you guys will like her.
