Police dogs strut their stuff
    2014-08-14  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

ABOUT 40 families visited the city’s criminal investigation department’s (CID) police dog base Sunday to see performances by police dogs and their trainers.

The well-trained dogs searched for drugs and bombs, ran obstacle courses, bit mock suspects and interacted with visitors.

Located next to Longhua’s Xinqu Boulevard, the base is home to over 100 police dogs, including Belgian Shepherds, Belgian Malinoises, English Springer Spaniels, Labrador Retrievers and Rottweilers. They live with 24 policemen and 10 assistant trainers. So far, the base’s police dogs have helped solve hundreds of cases.

A former police dog named Lingwu, 11, stood out for helping to trace more than 20 kilograms of drugs before retirement. It now has a daughter and its birthday is celebrated at the base each year.(Tan Yifan)
