SOME security guards working at Nan’ao Police Station, Dapeng New Area, were accused of being involved in illegal taxi services with e-bikes.
A resident surnamed Li, who returned to downtown from Xichong on Aug. 2, along with seven of his friends, took four unlicensed e-bike taxis to a bus stop, as their cars were stuck in a traffic jam. They were told the trip would cost 100 yuan (US$16), but later the drivers demanded 100 yuan more per passenger.
During the quarrel, Li said he would call police, but was laughed at by illegal taxi drivers, who said they worked at a police station.
Li later spoke with other unlicensed taxi drivers and found out the man who had quarreled with him, surnamed Wang, was actually a security guard at Nan’ao Police Station. Wang was not alone either: other security guards from the police station were also involved in providing the illegal services.
An investigation conducted by the Southern Metropolis Daily showed Wang often took to the streets on weekends to become an unlicensed taxi driver. Wang generally charged 50-60 yuan per person between Nan’ao and Xichong, as the road is often jammed, especially during weekends and holidays.
Police confirmed that Wang is a security guard at Nan’ao Police Station and that his job is to patrol on an e-bike.
They subsequently started an investigation over the illegal services provided by their security guards.
