    Fake invoices

SHENZHEN taxation and police authorities seized 7 million copies of fake invoices, covering various industries such as construction, cargo and hotels, Thursday.

The authorities arrested four suspects in a rented apartment in Bantian, Longgang District and closed two warehouses.

Back in February, the police started investigating a criminal ring that was selling fake invoices through the Internet. The ringleader, surnamed Zhang, purchased fake invoices from a factory in his hometown in eastern Guangdong and kept them in rented apartment in Buxin, Luohu District. Zhang often delivered the counterfeit receipts to other ring members in a small commodities market in Bantian, Longgang District, who contacted buyers through the Internet.

    Crime family

SIX family members were detained for selling fake mobile phones online, illegally earning around 400,000 yuan (US$65,000) within two years.

Longgang police busted the family crime ring Tuesday, including a father, his two sons and daughter and two other relatives.

The investigation revealed that the father rented an apartment in Longgang while his two sons purchased counterfeit mobile phones from an electronic market and sold them online. The daughter offered phone service to customers while the two other relatives contacted buyers online.

    Inflation up

SHENZHEN’S consumer price index, the main gauge of inflation, grew by 1.2 percent last month compared with August last year.

Food prices jumped by 2.9 percent last month compared with August last year.

    Award for BYD

THE European branch of BYD, a Shenzhen-based electric cars manufacturer, won the Low Carbon Heavy Duty Vehicle of the Year Award and was named a U.K. LowCVP Low Carbon Champion on Friday.

The award’s judges said BYD’s pure-electric buses have demonstrated impressive carbon savings through innovative electric power systems and provide a compelling business case with high market growth potential.

The company’s pure-electric buses have been in trial service in London and other major cities across Europe.

    Missing girls

TWO Shenzhen girls who had been missing for four days were found at the home of a classmate, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

Liu, 12, and Qiu, 16, disappeared after having fun at an entertainment venue in Gongming Subdistrict, Guangming New Area, on Wednesday morning. Police found them at a residential building near Xiacun Village on Friday.

The girls said four of their male friends got in a fight with some other people Wednesday, and they were all taken to a police station. After leaving the police station, they hid in the home of a female classmate because they were afraid of being scolded by their parents, they said.

    Ticket scalpers

LUOHU police started a special campaign last week to crack down on ticket scalpers at the Luohu inter-city bus station.

Police had given legal counsel to 12 scalpers by Wednesday night, and one scalper was given a three-day administrative detention as punishment Thursday.

    Cars collide

A MERCEDES-BENZ rear-ended a Honda on Longgang Boulevard in Longgang District yesterday morning, injuring two men who were in the Honda, police said.

The incident happened at about 2 a.m. yesterday near the Mumianwan Metro Station when the driver of the Mercedes-Benz attempted to overtake the Honda, which whirled around from the force before crashing into the road barrier.

The Mercedes-Benz drove on dozens of meters before stopping in the middle of the road. Soon afterwards, smoke rose from the Mercedes-Benz, which was quickly engulfed in flames. Two people in the car escaped unscathed. The car was reduced to just its frame by the time firefighters put out the blaze. Police are investigating.

    Suspected thieves

A SUSPECT was caught in connection with the theft of diesel fuel from a cargo truck parked along the road in Nanshan District early yesterday morning. Another two suspects are still on the run.

A man, surnamed Wei, saw what the three suspects were doing from his apartment at about 2 a.m. yesterday. He drove his SUV to chase the suspected thieves, but when he tried to stop the van the suspects were driving, the three drove the van into Wei’s car before jumping off the vehicle to escape. One of them was later caught by security guards at a nearby factory and criminally detained by police.
