Kalmaegi to bring rain
     2014-September-15  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

TYPHOON Kalmaegi, known as Typhoon Luis in the Philippines, is expected to make landfall in western Guangdong and eastern Hainan and will bring heavy rain to Shenzhen between tomorrow and Wednesday.

The 11th tropical storm of the year strengthened after entering the South China Sea earlier this morning and forced Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory to raise a white alert for strong winds.

Rain showers will cool off the city’s high temperatures by this afternoon. The typhoon was 1,160km away from Shenzhen by 4 p.m. yesterday and will edge 300km away from Shenzhen toward the south by 2 p.m. tomorrow.

Typhoon Kalmaegi made landfall in the northern part of the Philippine island of Luzon last night into early today as the equivalent of a Category 1 or possibly a Category 2 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale.

Kalmaegi formed Wednesday and strengthened into a tropical storm Friday. Heavy rain has already begun to fall in the Philippines as Kalmaegi approaches, bringing the threat of flooding and mudslides. Damaging gusts and coastal flooding are also possible wherever Kalmaegi makes landfall.
