Official kills self
AN official in Jiangsu Pro-vince hanged himself Thursday after he was removed from his post following an extravagant banquet, the local publicity department said. Lou Xuequan, 50, had served as Party secretary of Liuhe District in the provincial capital of Nanjing. The police ruled out foul play in preliminary findings. In June, Lou was removed from his post after Jiangsu discipline authorities found he had accepted an invitation to an expensive dinner during a tour of an industrial park.
4 officials charged
FOUR officials were brought to court for alleged law violations, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate said Thursday.
Li Ruohong, former board chairman of China Guangfa Bank, is suspected of taking bribes. Gao Weiping, president of Jilin University of Chemical Technology, is suspected of abusing power and embezzling public funds.
Another two officials suspected of taking bribes are Liu Jianjun, former deputy director of the standing committee of Xiaogan Municipal People’s Congress in Hubei Province, and Feng Limei, former head of the political advisory body of Maoming City in Guangdong Pro-vince.
IPhone 6 approved
APPLE Inc.’s latest smartphone iPhone 6 has won two major regulatory approvals in China, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said Thursday.
The ministry said four models of the iPhone 6 passed 3C (China Compulsory Certification) certification and won approval from the State Radio Regulation of China.
China’s 3C certification, similar to the European CE system, is a mandatory certification system that inspects and approves various products to be sold in the Chinese mainland market. But the iPhone 6 still needs to obtain a network access license before it can enter the mainland market.
