Hotels to hold mini-marathons

SEVEN hotels in Shenzhen and Dongguan are organizing a charity run to raise fund for a local rehab center for children with disabilities.

The Charity Run, which includes mini-marathons of 5 kilometers and 10 kilometers, is scheduled to be held from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Oct. 12 at Dameisha.

People who are interested in the event can call 0755-2217-3651 to get more information or to register. The registration fee is 50 yuan (US$8.13) per person. Participants will get a T-shirt and water during the race. All proceeds will be donated to Shenzhen Huayang Rehabilitation Center for Special Children.

Participants for the 5-km race will be divided into four groups — children under 12 years old, teenagers between 13 and 16, a women’s group for over 16-year-olds and a men’s group for over 16-year-olds. Those participating in the 10-km race will be divided into two groups — a female group and a male group.

The top three runners from each group will receive various prizes, including complementary stays in five-star hotels and vouchers for sumptuous buffets.

Participants are encouraged to dress up in stylish and creative ways and take interesting photos. Dresses or photos that attract the most attention may win surprising prizes.

A charity bazaar will also be held throughout the event to raise more money for the rehab center.

The event is expected to gather more than 300 running enthusiasts and philanthropists from the city. Senior executives from the seven hotels, local communities such as Starwood Classes from Shenzhen Polytechnic and IRNGO, a local charitable organization, and some people from key media outlets will join the event.

The seven hotels are the St. Regis Shenzhen, the Westin Nanshan, Shenzhen, Sheraton Shenzhen Futian Hotel, Sheraton Dameisha Resort, Four Points by Sheraton Shenzhen, Sheraton Dongguan Hotel and Aloft Dongguan Songshan Lake.
