Travel costs to increase by 30%
     2014-September-26  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE costs to travel during the National Day holiday are expected to be driven up by 30 percent due to the sharp increase in hotel rates and airfares.

Statistics released by www.tuniu.com, a tourism website, showed the reservations for medium- and long-trip travels of Shenzhen residents accounted for 37 percent of total reservations. Outbound traveling overseas accounted for 33 percent of the total. Hainan, Yunnan, Fujian, Hunan and Guangxi have been hot destinations for local travelers. For outbound travelers, the islands in South Korea and Thailand are hot destinations.

Shenzhen North Railway Station estimates it will handle 80,000 passengers Wednesday, the first day of the National Day holiday.

To relieve railway transportation strain, the railway station will add one pair of high-speed trains to Guangzhou and two pairs of trains to Nanchang. During the holiday, the railway station will handle 700,000 passengers, an increase of 180 percent over the same period last year since the Xiamen-Shenzhen high-speed rail wasn’t open by that time.

Shenzhen traffic police advised drivers to Huizhou and Shantou to use Jihe Expressway before turning onto Shenshan Expressway to avoid the heavy traffic in the eastern part of the city.

OCT East and Dameisha only have 8,000 parking places, but around 80,000-120,000 vehicles are expected to travel to that part of the city. As a result, police are considering imposing traffic control on Luosha Road and Eastern Coast Expressway when necessary. Police encourage drivers going to Dameisha and Xiaomeisha to use Shuiguan and Yanpai expressways, Yantian Road and Donghaidao Road to get to the beaches.
