    Mediation center

A LABOR dispute mediation center was established in Bagualing, Futian District, on Sunday to provide one-stop mediation services for resolving labor disputes, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday.

The center will be the first of its kind in the district.

The mediation center has incorporated several discrete government functional roles into one, including labor supervision, arbitration, free legal service and mediation, to make resolving labor disputes more efficient.

    IDs for vehicles

EIGHT types of automobiles in the city, including public transportation vehicles, taxis and school buses, will have their car plates installed with electronic IDs as a supplement to help monitor traffic, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported yesterday.

Around 150,000 to 200,000 vehicles will be in the first batch to have the chips installed with the vehicles’ information, the Daily report said. The chips can be read by authorized security devices and won’t reveal car drivers’ private information. A spokesperson for the city’s traffic police bureau said the electronic IDs won’t replace traditional car plates since they are not required by law.

    Man dies

A MAN died after jumping off a building in the commercial hub in Dongmen, Luohu District, on Thursday, Shenzhen Evening News reported.

A nearby security camera captured the man, a 23-year-old Shenzhen native, walking into the building alone and then jumping off the building, police said.

A forensic examination has ruled out the possibility of murder and police are investigating the incident as a suicidal act.

    Woman falls

A WOMAN fell from the third floor of a residential building in the Taoyuanxincun housing estate in Longhua New Area on Saturday when she was escaping a police clampdown on prostitution in the area.

The woman, a Hunan Province native surnamed Zhang, was said to have worked as a prostitute near her residence in the estate. She was hurriedly looking for a way out when police forced their way through a door in a neighboring building. One of her ribs was fractured in the accident.
