Nice holiday weather, mosquito bite warning

THE weather in most parts of China, Guangdong Province and Shenzhen will be good for traveling throughout the National Day holiday, Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory said.

Affected by a weak cold front from the north, there will be occasional showers, and temperatures will drop slightly today, the first day of the seven-day holiday. There will be sunny periods and showers through Saturday. It will be cloudy with sunny periods and light northeasterly winds between Sunday and Tuesday.

Temperatures will range between 22 and 29 degrees Celsius during the holiday.

Guangdong Province will be affected by a weak cold front Saturday to Tuesday.

There will be showers in Heyuan and Meizhou until Friday, and it will be clear and cool in the mornings and evenings Monday and Tuesday.

Nationally, the weather will be fine for traveling, but travelers to northern regions such as Inner Mongolia and Northeast China are advised to take extra clothes to keep warm because of the big temperature difference between daytime and nighttime.

Shenzhen’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) would like to remind travelers to be aware of mosquito bites while traveling or hiking.

The city has reported 36 dengue fever cases, including six new cases that were reported on Sunday. Guangdong’s 20 cities had reported 13,449 dengue fever cases as of Sunday, an increase of 1837.90 percent over the same period last year.

Xie Xu, deputy chief of Shenzhen’s CDC, said avoiding mosquito bites is the basic way to prevent dengue fever.
