    High-speed trains

SHENZHEN travelers are expected to be able to reach Guiyang within five hours and Nanning within four by taking high-speed trains operating between Guangzhou and the two locations. The Guiyang-Guangzhou and Nanning-Guangzhou lines are expected to open at the end of this year.

Nanning-Guangzhou High-speed Rail runs about 577 km and includes a 227-km section in Guangdong Province. The Guiyang-Guangzhou High-speed Rail runs 857 kilometers and includes a 207-km section in Guangdong, according to the construction plan.

    Vehicle inspections

DRIVERS can apply for vehicle inspection labels online at the Shenzhen Police Vehicle Administration’s official website (www.cgs.stc.gov.cn) beginning Oct. 27.

From September onward, drivers whose vehicles were registered less than six years ago are allowed to be exempted from annual vehicle inspections. After drivers fill in the applications, the administration will review them and mail labels to qualified applicants.

    Editor punished

THE former editor-in-chief of Shenzhen Overseas Chinese News, a man surnamed Wu, stood trial for a second time at Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court recently for giving 3.35 million yuan (US$549,000) of State assets to his employees as bonuses.

At the first trial in Yantian, Wu was sentenced to 14 months. The procuratorate appealed against the ruling because they felt it wasn’t harsh enough.

Between 2010-2011, Wu falsified expense reports in order to launder the money, which he used to provide bonuses to his employees and himself. His bonus was 240,000 yuan, according to prosecutors.

    Urban renovation

PINGSHAN New Area will initiate 17 urban renovation projects that will cover 2.5 million square meters this year. The projects have been approved by the city’s land planning authorities.

The renovation projects include building a large business complex in central Pingshan that will occupy 453,000 square meters and have a floor space of 1.48 million square meters.
