    Smart cup

A SMART cup co-designed by Rrioo, a Shenzhen design company, and Troels Seidenfaden, former president of the Association of Danish Designers, was released in Beijing earlier this week, according to Shenzhen Industrial Design Profession Association.

The cup, called Ocpu, can display the amount of water inside it and its temperature. Users can connect their mobile phones with the cup via Bluetooth to enjoy some interactive functions. The cup can also recognize five kinds of Teao teabags and tell users how long the tea should be brewed to have the best taste.

Ocpu is the first launched product to come from the Shenzhen-Denmark cooperation in the design industry.

    Bus emissions

PUBLIC buses and taxis in Shenzhen will be included in the city’s carbon trade program starting next year, meaning bus and taxi operators will be required to pay for emissions that exceed their quotas, an official with Shenzhen’s development and reform commission said at a forum Tuesday.

So far, 635 energy-consuming enterprises have been included in the carbon trade program. Their carbon emissions accounted for 40 percent of the total emissions in the city.

Shenzhen launched its carbon trade program, the first in China, in June last year. By Aug. 22, the amount of carbon traded had reached 1.43 million tons and the volume of funds had reached 102 million yuan (US$17), the first market in China to surpass 100 million yuan.

    Wild crash

A SPEEDING SUV crashed into a cleaning truck, overturning it and seriously injuring its driver on Xinzhou Road on Tuesday.

The crash caused a fire and the SUV’s driver fled the scene of the accident, according to a witness surnamed Liu.

The case is still under investigation.

    New school rule

STUDENTS in grades one through three at primary schools aren’t allowed to travel to or from school alone. If they do, their guardians will be in violation of new rules that are part of a draft which has been handed to the city’s lawmakers for review.

The draft regulation requires schools to arrange teachers to take care of children who must leave late because their parents don’t have time to pick them up after school at 4 p.m.
