SZ to Hanzhong
A DIRECT flight between Shenzhen and Hanzhong in Shaanxi Province opened Thursday.
There will be three flights each week between the two cities and a maximum 60-percent discount on tickets will be available during the initial operating period.
Hanzhong is home to many well-known resorts.
Accident insurance
SHENZHEN will spend 3.06 million yuan (US$502,000) to buy one-year accident insurance policies for 20,000 hukou holders above 80 years old.
Each insured senior will be compensated 100,000 yuan at most in the event of an accidental injury. Nearly 18,000 qualified seniors benefited from the program last year.
Huawei bribery
A MID-LEVEL executive of Shenzhen-based Huawei has been sentenced to three years in prison for receiving 210,000 yuan from franchisers to secure them lower prices on wholesale purchases.
The executive, Liu, was also charged with receiving 3.56 million yuan in bribes, but there was insufficient evidence to convict him.
Driver surrenders
THE Mercedes Benz driver who fled an accident in Luohu District that resulted in the death of a street cleaner turned himself in to police Tuesday.
Police identified the car using clues provided by witnesses. The driver, who had gone to his hometown in Shantou, surrendered after police contacted his family.
Boss disappears
THE boss of a Taiwanese-funded factory in Gongming, Guangming New Area, has disappeared, leaving more than 100 million yuan (US$16 million) in debts to suppliers, employees, friends and others.
The boss, surnamed Huang, had operated her plastic and metal factory for many years.
Illegal taxi service
THE driver of a private car who was suspected of being involved in providing illegal taxi services was fined 30,000 yuan after he dropped off two Japanese passengers at Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint on Wednesday.
The driver denied that he had been involved in providing taxi services when road officers intercepted him at the checkpoint. He claimed to be an employee of a company in Dongguan and said he was driving his company’s executives to the Hong Kong border, according to Shenzhen’s transportation commission.
The two passengers cooperated with the investigation and told the road officers that they had paid 180 yuan for the trip from Dongguan to Shenzhen. The road officers subsequently impounded the vehicle.
