    Gas pipeline

THE first gas pipeline in the city’s urban villages was put into use in Shuiwei Village, Futian District, on Monday, benefiting approximately 30,000 people in 7,000 households.

The gas pipeline brought an end to a history of the urban village using bottled gas and is expected to save residents about 2,000 yuan (US$326) per household each year.

    Police questioned

THE family of a 59-year-old street cleaner surnamed Cao, who was hit by a car while at work Sept. 11, questioned Shenzhen police’s impartiality in their decision regarding the case. The police said Cao should bear half of the responsibility for the accident, which caused Cao to suffer 20 bone fractures. It occurred at the Huaxi Exit of Longda Expressway.

The family paid 500,000 yuan in medical costs for a two-month treatment. The driver who hit Cao paid 40,000 yuan.

Shenzhen police said Cao should be partly responsible because he went across the street without paying attention to passing vehicles.

    Lost iPhone

A PHONE user got his iPhone 5S back three months after it was stolen when he received a text message asking him about his phone’s password.

Peng’s phone went missing after he put it on the windowsill of his home on Lixin Road in Nanwan Subdistrict, Longgang District, in July this year. He recently received a text message asking for the phone’s password. Peng called police. The sender of the text message, who was caught by police, claimed he had exchanged a Huawei mobile phone along with 300 yuan for the iPhone. Police arrested the suspect, surnamed Gong, who is Peng’s neighbor, with the clue provided by the sender of the text message. Gong allegedly stole the phone as revenge for Peng frequently making loud noises at night.

    Vessel trade

SHENZHEN Qianhai International Vessel Trading Center was established last week, engaging in trade of vessels, yachts, ship equipment, materials and spare parts.

The center in Qianhai, a platform for the shipping vessel business, plans to help ship builders arrange construction projects and help sellers save time and reduce sales costs.
