“The Keys to Highly Effective English Learning” is a book co-written by Tang Ying from Shenzhen Xin’an Middle School and Prof. Carol Griffiths, an expert in language learning strategies* from New Zealand.
The book consists of three chapters.
Chapter 1 was written by Griffiths. It covers the history of language learning strategies, strategies used by successful learners, asks why learners need a strategy, explores the principles* of strategy training and looks at specific steps to master the strategies.
Chapter 2 looks at some research projects Tang and her colleagues carried out with Junior 2 and Senior 2 students at Shenzhen Senior Middle School.
Chapter 3 includes nine memory strategies, eight cognitive strategies, one compensation strategy, five metacognitive* strategies, four effective strategies and three social strategies.
It is a bilingual book with English on the left pages and Chinese on the right pages. The writers developed 30 key learning strategies accompanied by a 5-step plan to ensure effective learning.
