    Unpaid wages fight

    GOVERNMENT agencies have launched a 100-day action to tackle unpaid wage violations, which become prominent at the end of the year before the Spring Festival.

    By September, the city had reported 85 such violations involving 32 million yuan (US$5.25 million). More than 5,000 people have been affected by the issue in Shenzhen alone. Among the violations, 61 cases have been handed to police for investigation.

    Border passengers

    THE number of travelers crossing Futian Checkpoint hit a new daily record of 214,700 Saturday.

    This was the eighth time the record was broken this year, the border checkpoint administration said Monday.

    Road project

    CONSTRUCTION on the 14.8-kilometer Shiqing Boulevard, which links Bao’an District’s Shiyan Subdistrict and Longhua New Area, started Monday.

    The road links Bulan Road in the east and Baoshi Road in the west and runs through four subdistricts, including Shiyan, Dalang, Guanlan and Longhua. The first stage will include a 7.29-km Shiyan and Longhua section. It will take about 20 minutes to travel the whole distance of the boulevard once it is completed.

    Abduction case

    A SCRAP collector, Wang, and two others were arrested by Yantian People’s Procuratorate on suspicions that they abducted a child.

    Wang picked up a 2-year-old girl, Li, while collecting scraps in Sanzhoutian, Yantian District, on Oct. 10. She gave the child to a couple who wanted to adopt a child. The spouse decided to take Li back to their hometown in Sichuan, but on the train, the wife told a train employee Li wasn’t her child.

    Hospital conflict

    A MAN was put under detention for 10 days for attacking nurses in Luohu Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital.

    The man, surnamed Yang, who was under the influence of alcohol, verbally and physically attacked the nurses at around 10 a.m. Friday, when he claimed his request to receive his medical records had been rejected.

    Yang later found his medical records were in his own baby stroller.

    Car violation

    DRIVERS who illegally switch lanes will be fined 500 yuan (US$81) and have three penalty points added to their driver’s license starting in January next year, according to Li Quangqun, section chief of the legislative affairs office with Shenzhen’s traffic police bureau.

    Suicide attempt

    A TENANT in Shatou, Shajing Subdistrict, Bao’an District, attempted to kill himself by igniting a gas cylinder in his apartment Sunday.

    The man, Ma, 37, suffered burns to 30 percent of his body. He was later rushed to a hospital. According to an investigation, Ma claimed he was under intense stress because someone wanted to kill him. The case is still under investigation.
