Cop sentenced

    A POLICE officer surnamed Wu was sentenced to one year in prison with a two-year suspension for taking 21,000 yuan (US$3,431) in bribes and abusing his power by releasing a vehicle that had been impounded for being overloaded.

    According to Yantian District People’s Court, the car owner, surnamed Chen, bribed a trainee officer, surnamed Li, at the Tongle traffic police unit Dec. 25, 2013. Li and Wu agreed to collect 18,000 yuan from Chen. Wu also promised to give 4,000 yuan to Li, who actually privately demanded 21,000 yuan from Chen, the court said.

    Li was sentenced to six months in prison with a one-year suspension.

    Border bridge

    CONSTRUCTION of Xin’an Bridge over Dongbao River, a border river between Shenzhen and Dongguan, started last week. It will link Xinhe Road in Shajing Subdistrict, Bao’an District and Jian’an Road in Chang’an Township, Dongguan City.

    It could save residents on both sides of the river about 40 minutes when the project is completed in 2016.

    Metro work

    CONSTRUCTION of Metro Line 10 will start at the end of the month. It will be about 29.88 kilometers long with five stations in Pinghu, Longgang District.

    The project starts from Futian Checkpoint and ends in central Pinghu. It will have 23 stations, including eight interchange stations.

    Cash returned

    A DRIVER with Shenzhen Xinzhou Taxi Service Co. handed a piece of luggage containing 100,000 yuan in cash to his company Thursday. The driver, Tan Deliang, found the luggage after a passenger from Shenzhen International Airport got out of his taxi in Nanshan District.

    When the company opened the luggage, they found 100,000 yuan in cash, personal documents and IDs. The company contacted the passenger on the same day and returned the luggage.

    Flight to Tianjin

    SPRING Airlines opened a Shenzhen-Tianjin flight via Yancheng, Jiangsu Province, yesterday.

    The flight, 9C8509, operates four times a week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. It leaves Shenzhen at 12:45 p.m. and arrives in Yancheng at 3 p.m. and in Tianjin at 5:30 p.m.

    The return flight, 9C8510, leaves Tianjin at 8:05 p.m. and arrives in Shenzhen at 12:55 a.m.
