Award-winning designs on display

MORE than 100 design works that have won international awards are on display at the Shenzhen Industrial Exhibition Hall in Civic Center.

The exhibition started last Tuesday and will last for three months. It is open to the public free of charge.

Most of the design works on display are winners of one of the following four international design awards — IDEAs from the United States, iF Awards and Red Dot Awards from Germany and Good Design Awards from Japan. Some are the best works from the Second China (Shenzhen) International Industrial Design Exhibition that was held last month.

Visitors will have a chance to learn about the latest trends in international design as well as to take a closer look at outstanding local design products.

Among the 110 works, 47 were designed by companies in Shenzhen and 11 are from Design42Day and Emo Design, two Italian design companies. Some of the local products have attracted visitors with their distinctive appearances and unique functions, including a wrist watch designed by CIGA, a household robot by ARTOP Design Co. and an LED lamp with a Bluetooth speaker function by Shenzhen Baojia Energy Co.

55ºC Cup, for example, is the latest product designed by Shenzhen LKK Design Co. Based on the theory of energy transformation, the cup, after being filled with hot water, can warm cold water up to 55 degrees Celsius.

“The exhibition showcases the latest developments in Shenzhen’s industrial design and brings some of the best international designs to Shenzhen,” said Shirley Feng, secretary general of Shenzhen Industrial Design Profession Association. “It offers an opportunity for local designers to learn from their Western counterparts to improve their works.”

In addition, nearly 300 design works that won German iF awards are being exhibited. The iF Design Awards started cooperating with Shenzhen last May, showcasing award-winning products at the Shenzhen Industrial Exhibition Hall in rotation. This is the fourth show to cover design works from 24 countries and regions, including France, the United States, New Zealand, Japan and China.
