TWO seniors were injured in two separate sulfuric acid attacks in Bao’an District last week.
One of the seniors, surnamed Zhan, was walking near his home in Shajing at 9 p.m. Tuesday when a man suddenly appeared from his right side and poured a bottle of acid onto his head, according to a report in Saturday’s Southern Metropolis Daily.
The man then rode away on an electric vehicle and Zhan reported the incident to police.
Zhan suffered burns to his face, hands, legs and eyes.
“His right eye suffered the most severe injury,” said his doctor, Peng.
Zhan will probably lose sight in his right eye, the paper said.
He said he doesn’t know the man who attacked him.
Zhan came to Shenzhen from Chaoshan last May to take care of his grandchild, according to his son-in-law.
A businessman involved in e-commerce, the son-in-law said the attacker could not be people he knows.
Another old man was also injured by an acid attack in Fuyong, Bao’an, on Wednesday. The old man also said he doesn’t know the attacker.
Police have been investigating the two cases. (Martin Li)
