One dies

    ONE person was killed and seven others were injured in a knife attack in Central China’s Hubei Province on Saturday, local police said.

    Police in Wuhan, capital of Hubei, received the report of the knife attack on a street in the city’s Jianghan District at about 9:40 a.m.

    Mother prosecuted

    A WOMAN from central China’s Henan Province has been prosecuted for selling her own baby, local authorities said.

    The woman surnamed Huang conspired with an obstetrician in a Xinxiang County clinic to sell her newborn for 42,000 yuan (US$7,000). The doctor was also prosecuted.

    Chemical plant fire

    A BLAZE ripped through a chemical plant in East China’s Jiangxi Province on Saturday evening, local authorities said.

    No casualties have been reported after the fire broke out at about 7:30 p.m. at an organosilicon factory in Yongxiu County, according to the county’s publicity department.
