    Roadside parking

IN Shenzhen Daily on Thursday, an article said multi-story parking garages are unpopular among Shenzhen drivers. I think you should have written this differently: any paid parking space is unpopular among Shenzhen drivers. Ever since the local government implemented roadside parking, you will see no cars parked on these roads. Instead, they park illegally any place they can get away with it. Drivers are complaining that they now have to pay if they have to stop somewhere to go to the bathroom. Please get a life. The fact is that most drivers are just too cheap to pay a few RMB for parking despite driving cars that cost hundreds of thousands RMB and carrying handbags and watches that cost tens of thousands. The government should not give in but instead force developers to build more proper parking buildings and force shopping malls to start charging for parking. If people do not want to pay for parking, they should not buy a car but take public transportation instead.

    Officials’ hobbies

SOME in-service officials hold part-time yet important positions as directors or vice directors in calligraphy associations. Why? Because they want to raise the prices for their calligraphy services that calligraphy associations already offer and also raise their own prestige. At the same time, calligraphy associations or other nongovernment bodies use the power and influence these officials can provide to quickly raise funds and spread influence.

So officials holding part-time positions in nongovernment bodies is a mutually beneficial collusion.

Officials certainly should have hobbies and support charitable organizations, but their hobbies must be isolated from power.

Officials who abuse their power also disrupt social harmony.
