    A fine truck

    BAO’AN police seized a truck, which had 138 violations, last week. The driver faces a cumulative fine of 40,800 yuan (US$6,508) and 312 penalty points added to his license. The truck failed an emissions test and had no insurance. The driver said he usually drove between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. to evade police inspection.

    CUHK enrollment

    THE Chinese University of Hong Kong Shenzhen campus opened its online application system for candidates from Guangdong on Wednesday.

    Guangdong residents can file their application on the official CUHK website before May 31. The university will publish a list of people invited to sit a test and interview in mid-June.

    Organ donor

    SI MINGHAI, 59, a former manager of Shenzhen Libaoyi Trade and Industry Development Co., donated his corneas and body after dying from cancer Tuesday. His corneas were donated to Shenzhen Red Cross and could restore the sight of six people. Si came to Shenzhen in 1997 and worked in the trading company for more than 10 years.

    As of the end of March, 218 people have become organ donors in Shenzhen.

    License plates

    SHENZHEN will hold a third car plate lottery and auction April 27, offering 11,372 plates for auction and 10,462 for lottery. Around 160,000 residents have registered to participate.

    Test reservation

    A TOTAL of 164,871 learner drivers have made online reservations for driving tests since the online service was initiated March 30. Yet 2,297 learner drivers canceled their reservations, accounting for 6 percent of the total. Beginning Thursday, those who cancel their reservations will need to wait at least two weeks before they can reschedule another driving test. Shenzhen’s traffic police will continue driving tests during the May Day holidays.
