Schools get passing grade

THE city’s education authority released the result of a survey Wednesday, stating that students, parents and teachers are satisfied with the education in public schools for 2014 for grade 12 and below.

According to the survey, 93.90 percent of students are satisfied, 83.77 percent of parents are satisfied and 85.04 of teachers are satisfied with Shenzhen’s school system.

It is the first time that the education authority has invited a third-party consulting firm to conduct a public opinion poll among students, parents and teachers.

The Shenzhen Municipal Education Bureau authorized the consulting company, Dimeno Research, to independently design three surveys to cater to the three different groups of people from 70 schools in all districts.

“We believe that with the professional service of a third-party consulting firm without our interference, the survey is authentic and trustworthy,” said Zhang Guangyi, a department chief with the city’s education bureau, at a meeting of education practitioners Thursday afternoon.

The research company received 49,455 valid responses in total, among which 85.75 percent were students and parents. Besides the general result, three sectors top the list in terms of the degree of satisfaction: the responsibility of teachers, the level of teaching quality and the school environment.

The survey also shows that parents with higher education levels are less satisfied with the education system.
